On the first day of the 32nd ESTS Meeting, May 26, 2024, IntoCare held a grand scientific dinner at National Art Museum of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain. The event drew a diverse audience of 80 international guests, including renowned thoracic surgeons and IntoCare partners from all over the world.

During the dinner, we were honored to have Prof. Dr. Cosimo Lequaglie from IRCCS CROB OECI Cancer Institute and Mr. Igor Saftic from Bristol and Weston University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as guest speakers. They shared their insights and experiences using the IntoCare Powered Stapling Platform.

Prof. Dr. Cosimo Lequaglie presented his research poster, “MANUAL VERSUS ENERGY STAPLERS IN MINIMALLY INVASIVE LUNG SURGERY,” which was also displayed at the ESTS Venue at location P177. The study aimed to compare the performance of manual and powered staplers in minimally invasive lung surgery, focusing on ergonomics, device malfunctions, and the tightness of the suture on lung parenchymal tissue. A total of 150 major lung resections were included in the study, with 75 cases using manual staplers (Group A) and 75 cases using IntoCare Intelligent Powered Stapling Platform (Group B).

The findings demonstrated several significant advantages of powered staplers, including reduced operative time, decreased blood loss, and a lower incidence of air leaks in Group B compared to Group A. Additionally, the surgeons reported higher satisfaction with the ergonomics of the powered staplers, which contributed to reduced fatigue and enhanced precision during surgery. These results underscore the potential of powered staplers to improve surgical outcomes and efficiency in minimally invasive lung surgery.
